Town Coaches, like Landaus, are high status vehicles owned by aristocratic families for transport to special occasions perhaps more appropriate to the changeable British weather.
Many designs of coach exist, the earlier examples being large bodied vehicles mounted on a perch and C springs with leather straps.
The Town Coach is designed to be driven by a Coachman with Grooms outside, the owners travelling inside the vehicle in the warm and dry.
Town Coaches are usually curvaceous vehicles with windows all around the occupants (unlike the similar Brougham) with underbody lines similar to the Canoe Landau. Later examples are based on full elliptical springs.
